A few years ago, I was walking through a market in Dubai and came across a stall selling frankincense and myrrh. It was an amazing moment. Here, I thought, are the gifts of the Three Kings. Of course I knew about frankincense and myrrh, but, to be honest, I really didn’t know what either of them were. Nonetheless, when I picked up the pieces of frankincense and myrrh and held them in my hand, I felt an immediate connection – or more accurately, a sense of completion. I was touched by a simple idea: here are the Gifts of the Magi – the real, actual gifts they had given. I couldn’t help but think that everyone would enjoy this same experience – this connection to the Original Gifts of Christmas.
